Passenger Slumps, Dies At Lagos Airport

A passenger with Etihad Airways, Ademola Adekele, scheduled to travel out of Nigeria for medical check-ups on Wednesday morning, slumped and died at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Mr Adeleke, who was to board flight EY674 (AUH) scheduled for departure at 09:55 am had arrived at the airport early, but suddenly slumped and started gasping for breath.

According to an eyewitness, immediately he slumped, an unnamed Air Peace passenger tried to revive him by pumping his chest, “but he did not respond to the first aid treatment,” before the arrival of the airport health officials, who immediately applied oxygen on him. “But it was discovered that none of his vital signals was responding to treatment.”

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) ambulance later arrived the scene and took him to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) where he was confirmed dead.

Confirming the incident, the general manager, corporate communications, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said the passenger slumped as soon as he stepped into the terminal but said he was yet to be checked in at the time of the incident.

“It was so sad. He was probably going for medical check-up before he slumped and died as soon as he stepped into the terminal,” Mrs Yakubu said.
